Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa today said that he didn’t believe that the Cabinet Ministers would have any links with the RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) of India.

Responding to journalists after visiting the Henakaduwa Temple at Tangalle, Mr Rajapaksa, however, said the act of one of the Ministers working for the RAW would amount to treason.
Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga, who the government has named as a fugitive, would return to Sri Lanka in a month on my request, Ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday.

He expressed these views to the media after taking part in religious observances at the Kataragama Kiri Vehera.

Former President Rajapaksa had requested Weeratunga to return to the country as the court has issued an arrest warrant on him over his alleged involvement in the purchase of MiG fighter jets some time back.

He said he could not remember whether he said exactly what was in the audio. “There is some truth. I frequently spoke to him.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Bhikku Organisation (SLFBO) has urged former President and Kurunegala district MP Mahinda Rajapaksa to form a separate political party and contest future elections in order to save the SLFP.

“We cannot trust the present SLFP leadership to protect the party due to his acts and words expressed by him, SLFBO Secretary Ven.Watinapaha Somananda Thera said on the 9th.

The January 8 mandate is no longer valid as the people have realised the truth now. If an election is held now,the former President will poll over seven million votes.
